Hasn't taken a single step from the magazine rack in 30 days. Yet knows everything happening in the store. May have been here before the lockdown.
“Do nothing, and there is nothing that is not done.” ── Laozi
KQSN (Standing-Reader Sage) types are the hardest to explain in this whole test. You don't take a single step from the magazine rack for 30 days. You don't help build barricades, don't line up for rations, don't join the revolution. And yet, 30 days later, you're alive. And honestly, in pretty good shape.
Stranger still, you know everything happening in the store. Who's feuding with whom, how many days until the water runs out, that someone is holed up in the bathroom — you know all of it. The magazine corner turned out to be the store's information nexus, with a clear view of everything. You don't fail to move. You simply have no need to.
Whenever the group reaches a critical fork, people come to you for some reason. Without lifting your eyes from the magazine, you offer a single line. "There's one more person in the backroom." And it is always correct. By day 18, consulting you had been formally built into the store's decision-making process. You never once ran for the position.
Yet scrutinize the record and one question surfaces. In the security footage from the first day of the lockdown, you are already there. Same spot, same posture. None of the staff can remember when you entered the store. The possibility that you were here before the lockdown cannot be ruled out. On day 27, you quietly fall from a head rush brought on by standing too long. In 30 days, it was your only movement.
The toilet paper, at least, is still in good supply.
🍀 Lucky item: Toilet paper
